The compiler thanks Mark Kahler and Odilo Hansen for their cooperation with this project. And a special acknowledgement goes to Miss Ella Vogelsang, now deceased, of the Sioux Valley Genealogy Society of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for her untiring diligence checking each headstone in Minnehaha County cemeteries against a list prepared by the WPA Graves Registration Division. Then added those deceased since then through 1977.

Mr. Hansen stated the St. Mary Cemetery with a dozen graves was first located a mile north of the present public high school. When the new land was purchased, the graves were moved to the present site.

Mr. Meroe A.Way's headstone shows a death date of 1870, the earliest found. His remains may have been interred later.
