Our Church

The mission of Dell Rapids United Methodist Church is to love God and our neighbor, to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, and to make Him known to all.

Methodism has a long and vital history in this region.  The Dell Rapids congregation was organized in 1880, nine years prior to South Dakota's statehood.

The present structure was updated with a spacious addition, constructed in 1996.  With this addition came the cheery Sonshine Room, which has been used for community dinners, workshops and church events.

We are also home for the Rainbow Pre-School.  And we are the host church for the ecumenical Vacation Bible School each spring.

A Parable

A woman was riding the subway and witnessed a blind girl, a guide dog, and a guide dog trainer in the same car.  The trainer instructed the girl to go to the doorway of the car and feel the barrier on either side of the door.  Then  he asked her to turn around and feel the barriers on the other side.

As the train entered another station, and they were about to exit, the trainer said to the girl, "Now pick up the dog's harness.  He can't lead you unless you stay in contact with him."

The same can be said of our journey through life.  We are prone to stumble, to make wrong turns, and to become confused.  So it is important to stay in contact with God who has promised to guide us.  Through prayer, Bible study, and worship, we stay in contact with the One who is "the way, the truth, and the life."  (John 14:6)
