Some of the icons we associate with the company LGE are the
railroad, the quarry and the red crushed rock on our streets and roads.
This year, L. G. Everist, Inc. is celebrating 130 years in business.
Dell Rapids has been and is an integral part of the company. They are
now operating 2 quarries in Dells on two sides of town.
The main quarry on the east side of town is undergoing a
makeover with the addition of 2 new crushers. This site will mainly
supply the railroad traffic while the reopened west quarry will
concentrate more on the truck business.
Bob Hoffman is the quarry Superintendent at the east
quarry and Scott Rentz is quarry superintendent at the west quarry. A
few of LGE's key personnel are: Randy Haak, railroad car foreman and
asst. foreman at the east quarry, Merlin Lebahn, shop foreman, Jerry
Fox, Locomotive foreman and Norris Brobjorg, railroad maintenance
foreman. LGE employs up to 60 people in the summertime.
LGE has a total of 12 production plants in the United
States.
In visiting with Rob Everist, company vice-president and
resident of Dell Rapids, he shared some personal information about
himself and his family.
Rob used to work for another rock company in San Diego,
CA after serving 10 years in the US Navy. In 1991 he started
working with L.G. Everist, Inc. Rob is married to Joette and they
have 4 children, Sam, Juliana, Robyn and Ellie.
They are members of the St. Mary's Church and their children
attend St. Mary's school as well.

When I asked Rob what piece of advice he may give new business
owners and he said "to be patient and develop long term relationships."
He also added, "We appreciate the support of the
community and especially all of our loyal employees."
We are thankful to LGE for all their support to our
community and helping to provide us with a share of the riches of what they dig
from the earth, in jobs, financial support and being an anchor for our
economics.
Now this only leaves me with just a few questions
unanswered like; How big is that hole in the ground? and What are you
going to do with that hole when you are done with it?
