County Fair Foods has been named the Dell Rapids Chamber Business of the Month for April.

With approximately 50 associates, owners Don and Betty Root have owned and operated the County Fair Foods grocery store in Dell Rapids since 1998.

As members of the Lutheran Church in Dell Rapids, the Dell Rapids Sportsmen’s Club, the Dell Rapids Chamber of Commerce and active in Junior Achievement, the Roots were selected for the Chamber’s award because of their support of and involvement in the Dell Rapids community.

“We’re big supporters of local events,” Don Root said, “We like to see our community prosper and grow.”

“We give back to the community,” Betty added.

Thinking of their customers as their friends, the Roots have helped with events including providing the ice cream at “Take me out to the ball game” at Quarry Days, sponsor kids softball teams each summer, have established a scholarship program for employees and support the community through donating goods and services. To date, County Fair Foods has given away $9,900 to its local County Fair Shoppers through the Gold Rush program. Just another way County Fair Foods gives back to their community!

As recipients of the Chamber’s award, the Roots and County Fair Foods are offering a special for all Dell Rapids Chamber members in April. Dell Rapids Chamber members are invited to stop in at County Fair for a free dessert with any deli meal purchase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

Chamber president, Rich Avery, offered these words to the Roots, “Congratulations and thanks for being such great supporters of the Chamber. It is businesses and people like you that make our organization successful.”

Originally from Huron, the Roots enjoy living in Dell Rapids. They were junior prom dates, will celebrate their 15^th wedding anniversary this year and have two children, Kalyn, 10, and Collin, six.
